You\u2019d read some magazines\nin the waiting room, greet the team members with a handshake or hug, and your\ndentist would be wearing a face mask and gloves as they treated you. These\ndays, almost everything about the way your dentist operates has changed. Here\u2019s\nwhat you can expect during a dental visit in these post-COVID-19 times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Patient Pre-Screening<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A few days before your appointment, a member of your dentist\u2019s\nstaff should contact you and ask you a few quick questions about your recent\nhealth, like whether you currently have any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in\ncontact with someone who does. When you arrive at the office, you\u2019ll be asked\nthose same questions again. Your temperature will also be taken with a no-touch\nthermometer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hand Sanitizing <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before your appointment can begin, you\u2019ll be asked to thoroughly\nclean your hands with provided hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizing stations are\nalso placed throughout the office for you to use as needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Spaced-Out Patient Scheduling <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your dentist isn\u2019t seeing quite as many patients in a day as\nthey used to. Because appointments are more sequenced, there is less of a\nchance that a patient will bump into another patient and accidentally spread\ngerms. Spaced-out scheduling also allows for more frequent office cleaning\nbetween patients. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teledentistry Available <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems everyone is working virtually these days. Believe\nit or not, your dentist can do part of their job over the phone or via platforms\nlike Skype. Some consultations and follow-up appointments can be done this way,\nso you won\u2019t have to take the risk of leaving your house. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Extraoral Suction Systems <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When your dentist uses certain instruments, dental aerosols\n(particles from your mouth, made of substances like blood, saliva, and germs)\nare produced. They can then float in the air for several minutes before falling\nto the ground. During this time, they could infect your dental team or the\npatients who sit in the chair after you. To minimize this risk, your dentist\nuses a device called an extraoral, which absorbs harmful pathogens in dental aerosols\nwith up to 99.9% efficiency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your dental visit will look a lot different than it did in\nthe old days, thanks to COVID-19 safety precautions.
